~One Down, One To Go~

Happy Friday, dear friends!!
This week sure did fly by!!!
Hope you are staying cool!
AC + Fans= Happy Me!!!

In my last post I shared two projects I was working on,
A new penny rug, and an applique piece!

Well, believe it or not, I actually got the penny rug finished!

Here is my newest penny rug!

I draped it over the back of my chair so you could see
one idea about how you could display it!

Love the colors, but again, my camera seems to like to
change the tones!!

This is a good size penny rug!
It is 32 inches long by 11 inches wide!
Since it is backed with pennies, rather than a fabric
there are a total of 232 hand cut pennies!!
What happened to me NOT making a big rug??

Here is the back, a lovely dark brown wool from an old coat!!
You can see all the stitches joining it together!!

I was so happy the brown coat was large
so I would have plenty of pennies!!

Originally, I planned to make it to use under my large trencher filled with fabric strawberries
that sits on my coffee table!!
Do you see how different
the colors look??

The trencher is so big is really hides most of the penny rug!!
Not sure I like it!
It also looks so washed out!
Silly camera, again!!

Here it is over the back of another chair!!!
The colors are much truer in this picture!!
It won't stay here, but just shows how versatile penny rugs are!
It also shows that it looks a bit different color wise!!
Amazing how the same rug can look so different
with different lighting and location!!!

Let's see what it looks like on my old farm table behind my

It looks really nice here, but I already have another penny rug I just love
that lives here!
Again, the colors look a bit different!!

Let's see what it looks like with my old blue chair!!
It's a fun possibility!!

I finally decided to just drape it over the back of my old blue chair that sits in my dining room!
I REALLY love it here!!!
What do you think?
I think it will stay here for now!!!

My second project, an applique piece, is in process at the moment!!

I have already stitched the 2 bottom hearts, the rainbow, and the large center heart
using some black sewing thread!
I whip stitched them in place

Today I will be stitching some back stitching in brown floss
for the vine that the leaves are connected to!!
You can also see my chalk line to show me where to stitch!!

All of my little leaves and small pieces are in this old blue bowl,
all ready for when I need them!!
Neat and organized so I don't accidentally lose them!!!

This will definitely take some time to stitch all of these little pieces in place
so I guess I had better get started soon!

Many, many thanks to all of you who left such sweet comments in my last post,
and for all of you who purchased my pattern!!!
I am so deeply honored and appreciate your encouragement and support!!!
Thank you SO MUCH!!

Wishing you a day filled with Comfort and Creativity, my friends~

Love both of your projects, Julie! The penny rug looks great on your blue chair. Love the color paint on that chair! Such a great idea for your pattern to do a wool appliqué piece! I'm not surprised you sold more of them. Your piece is beautiful and very inspiring!
Happy stitching, Lori

You are being so productive! I feel like such a slacker (but I did have some quality time with my favorite redhead).
The penny rug is another gorgeous one.
Happy weekend to you :)

You have made magic again Julie. Beautiful rich colors that looks wonderful on your little
blue chair. You have really been keeping busy!

Julie, those penny rugs looks great anywhere. You did worked fast on those projects. They look very impressive on those chairs too.

It's so difficult getting the true color of any rug I find. They say the best light for photographing a rug is outdoors on an overcast day. I must try that some day.

Hi Lori,
That sweet blue chair was a gift from Janelle and Austin for Mother's Day several years ago!! I just love it, too! It seemed the perfect spot for the penny rug for now!!! Seems like I have lots of places to put it!! I wish I would have thought of that before about the applique but hoping all who bought it will my post and try that! It is a fun piece, but has lots of little pieces so it will take me some time to get it all stitched!! I decided not to use a blanket stitch as I wanted the shapes to really stand out, rather than the stitches!! So happy you love both projects!!!

Hi Lauren,
I have really enjoyed all the stitching and it helps when I have to stay inside so much!!! You should't feel like a slacker as you seem to fill your days with so much!! Glad you got to spend time with your redhead!! Thanks for your sweet words!!

Hi Marcia,
I'm so happy you love the colors!! That chair was a gift from my daughter and her hubby for Mother's Day and is a favorite display piece! The penny rug just seemed to fit there...at least for now!!! I'm sure you have some project going on as well and hope you are enjoying it!!!

Hi Julia,
I had fun and love them over the back of the chairs, too!!! If now one sat in them it would be the perfect spot!!! I have so much trouble with light here as it is hardly ever overcast!!! Too much bright sun and then we have lots of windows, so it can be a challenge!!! I think I at least got a few good ones!!! You will have to let me know if you ever try it!!

Thanks to all of you for you sweet comments!! Hope you have a fabulous weekend, and please stay cool!!

Good grief woman. I get exhausted just reading your posts and can't believe how PERFECT your stitches are. What is shocking me is it appears the pennies are stand alone and attached to each other only by stitches.

I am in total awe.

Hi Denise,
Thank you so much!!! I am really pleased with both of them!!!
Now to get back to stitching!!

Hi Saundra,
You made me smile, my friend!! Thank you for thinking my stitches are perfect!! Yes, the penny rug is held together by lots of stitches and it is pretty amazing how sturdy it is!!! It is pretty amazing what a needle and thread can do!!!!

Hope you both have a wonderful weekend and stay cool!!
Thanks for your visit and sweet comments!

The colors do look so very different on each of the chairs, but either way it is a gorgeous piece. Plus I really do like how you finally draped it over your little blue chair. Also loving your applique piece now too. Cannot wait to see this one finished. Hope you have a great weekend my friend! Janice

Oh wow, Julie!!! You are so inspirational!! I love your penny rugs and aren't they fun to make? I still have my pennies sitting in a basket, just haven't have the time to complete it. Your home is just lovely with all your collections. I have a small trencher that I am thinking about putting all of my strawberries in! Such a great idea...I just have to keep my little grand daughter from chewing off the ends..LOL!! Have a great day!

Julie, you certainly have been very busy lately! Your penny rug is beautiful! Love the colors! I think it looks perfect on your blue chair! Your heart appliqué is lovely too! I haven't had much time to create, been on jury duty for the past week. We have a lovely sunny day here, a little cooler only in the low 70*s Stay cool and enjoy your stitching!

Hi Janice,
It is really amazing how the penny rug does look so different!! I know some of it is the lighting and some of it is the color field affect! My camera just seems to see things differently!! I didn't plan to use it on the blue chair, but it just seemed right!! I opted for simple stitches on my applique piece but am sure it would look lovely with more decorative stitching!! Hoping to work on more of it today!!! Thanks so much for your visit!!

Hi Annie,
I'm so happy you love the colors, too! It is so fun to play with different colors and see what they turn out to be! I plan to work on the applique today so hoping to show more progress soon! Thanks so much for your sweet words and your visit!

Hi Bobbie,
I'm so happy I can offer some inspiration!! That is truly what I hope to do with what I share! We ALL need to be encouraged and inspired, don't we??
Hope you can find some time to get those pennies stitched into something beautiful! I love my trencher with my strawberries and think you would love using yours that way!! Yes, I could see how they would be a temptation for your little sweetie!! I was afraid my grand dog Charlotte might try to eat one as she was sniffing them the other day, but she was a good girl!!
Thanks so much for your visit and sweet words!!

I hope each of you have a wonderful weekend, and hope you stay cool and creative!! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!!! xo

It is so easy to get things done when you have to stay inside!!! lol
It has been soooooo HOT here and stitching seems to be the perfect option where it is cool!!! So happy you love my new rug and I am loving it on the blue chair!! Seems like the right spot for now!! Jury duty is no fun!!!
I would LOVE some of that sunny 70 degree weather right now!!! I can just imagine it! *sigh*

I like the look of penny rugs draped over the back of a chair very much! You're making great progress on your buttermold applique!

Julie - My Primitive Heart said...

Hi Barb,
Actually, I really do get a lot of sleep! Haha! Since it is so hot outside, I have lots of time to work on things!! I cut so many pennies that I still have plenty to make more rugs!! They are great hand projects while watching a movie, too!!! Hope you are staying cool and I KNOW you are working on something wonderful with those talented hands!! Thanks for your sweet comment!

Hi Sharon,
I love penny rugs over chairs, too!! They are so much fun to create and add such a nice pop of color!! My applique is taking longer since I have to stitch using my Ott Light with that black background, plus all those tiny stitches! Slow, but sure!!!! Hope you are finding time to work on your lovely quilt!! Thanks so much for stopping by!!!

Hope you both have a lovely Sunday and stay cool, my friends!!

Julie, I love how your penny rug came out! Those colors are so rich and lovely. My favorite photo is the rug draped over that fantastic blue chair. Wow, the combination is perfect! Your current heart project is going to turn out beautiful and I look forward to seeing the finished product.

I hope your Summer is unfolding to be a great time to enjoy your gardens and time outdoors too! It is hard to believe that June is already half over and we are marching towards July and August! Before we know it, little signs of goblins and pumpkins are going to appear in projects from your home and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Julie - My Primitive Heart said...

Hi Winnie,
I am so happy you love my new penny rug!! The colors are really lovely together and I was so happy it looked so good draped over my sweet old blue chair!!! I have had to take a bit of a break working on my applique since my son and grands came for a visit and we are having too much fun!!! Once they return home, I will be back to stitching again!!! Summer here is VERY HOT, but I look forward to lots of time spent in the AC stitching!! Hope I can come up with some fun projects!!!! Thanks so much for your sweet words!!! Hope you are staying cool!!!

Hi Kelley,
I just got on my computer for the first time today after a busy few weeks! Then I came down with a terrible flu bug and am still trying to get my strength back! I have not been this sick in a long time and hope it goes away SOON!!! Thanks for thinking of me and the AC is keeping me nice and cool in this dreadful heat!!
Will be catching up with all my favorite blogs and sharing a post, too!!
Hope you are keeping cool as well, my friend!!
