~True Colors~

Happy Tuesday, dear friends!

It is an absolutely GORGEOUS DAY, here in Peoria today!!
After last week of having some triple digit days
the high of 74 degrees and sunshine
 is just to my liking!!

Windows are open, birds are singing, golfer's are golfing
and I am stitching!!
 What could be better, yes??

*********

As you know, I have been working on a large penny rug
using some old wool from an old coat and some old blankets in
RED, GOLD, and BLACK!

These colors are so rich and lovely to my eye,
but sadly
keep showing up to most of you as RED, WHITE, and BLUE!!

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE those wonderful Patriotic
Americana colors, and a penny rug in those colors would be wonderful!

BUT.........

my penny rug in not those colors,

SO.........

I decided to try to take some more pictures and this time
I added a BLUE coverlet to see if it might help make the difference!!

This is a wonderful old overshot BLUE coverlet I decided to use to help show the color contrast!
It is in perfect condition and I actually found it at a Thrift store, of all places!!

Here is the penny rug from the back, on top of the coverlet!

Can you see the two colors of BLACK and BLUE????
{Please tell me you CAN see the difference?}

Here is another look!
{Is this any better?}

I really do think {HOPE} you can see that my penny rug background is really
BLACK, not BLUE!!

When I tried to get a close up of my progress, it just faded the color of black
and the closer I got, the worse the photo
so these are the best ones of the group!
You would not believe how many photos I
actually had to delete!!!

I think the sad truth is that I really need a new camera!!!!

Even if the pictures aren't the best, I hope you can see my progress!
I have actually stitched one of the long points!!
So exciting!!!

Here is the front of the penny rug and I really do think I got the
TRUE COLORS
 this time!!

What do you think??

*************

I still have a long way to go, but it has been a really fun challenge for me,
and I hope you have been enjoying my progress!!!
If you are working on a penny rug
I would love to hear about
your progress!!

*********

Thanks so much for stopping by today and visiting with me!!
I love hearing from you and so appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment!!
Those little words can truly make my day!!

Wishing you Bright and Sparkling Days, my friends~

Julie

Julie, I think your penny rug is looking fantastic and I love the colors you chose! Also, that blue coverlet on the bed is beautiful too. How perfect it looks with a few red accents for the upcoming summer months.

Your Penny rug is gorgeous and simply perfect in the colors you chose! Love that coverlet as well! Where is the Penny rug going once it is completed? Love all of your handcrafts....you are so talented!

Julie, that was a PERFECT way to show the true colors of your penny rug! They came through loud and clear! And I love that blue coverlet. I also found something similar at a thrift shop one time -- not an entire big coverlet like yours, but several pieces of a blue coverlet that had been cut into rectangles -- one is a perfect table runner, the others are beautiful under lamps, etc., around the house. Got keep you eye out! Never know what treasure you will find! Thanks for the fun post.

Julie, what luck to find that blue coverlet. I love it... Your penny rug is coming along so well, you got a lot done and yes, the color came out true on several pictures. The best light is outdoors on an overcast day they say. The flash tends to fade the colors I find.

It's going to be gorgeous. Wow, triple digits at this time of year sounds very hot. I'm glad it's more comfortable for you now.
Enjoy working on your project.
I'm still away at my daughter and I'll be returning home tomorrow.
Take care, Hugs
Julia

Hi Winnie,
I'm so happy you love my penny rug and can actually see the True Colors!! Yay!! I love the coverlet as well, and I have it over my bed!! Love all these colors together!!!
Thanks so much for visiting and hope you have a wonderful week!!

Hi Penny,
You have the Perfect Name for someone who loves Penny rugs, my friend!
I'm so happy you love the colors and also the coverlet!! It is going to be used on my dining room table when it is finished!! I have lots of red, mustard, and black in that room and it looks great with my Yellowware bowls!! Thank you for your kind words regarding my work! You know I love what I do!!! Hope you enjoy your week!!

Hi Vicki Jo,
I am so happy I thought of it and the coverlet really does help set the colors off!! So happy you can see what they really are!! Yes, you just never know what you will find and I still can't believe I found it in perfect condition and for the price!! It was a real find!! Coverlet pieces are always so nice to have for display as you have done!! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comments!! Enjoy your week!!

Hi Julia,
Yes, I was so thrilled to find that coverlet and it is a really large and nice one!! The price was even better!!! So happy you can see the real colors and I am excited to get more stitched today!! It really helps to have extra needles threaded so you can just pick one up when you are done! Our hottest day was 107, but now it is in the 70's and breezy....perfect weather!! Wish it could stay like this all summer.....sigh!!! Take care and hope you have a wonderful week!

Heart Hugs to you all, my friends~

Julie,
Your penny rug is stunning. The colors came true with these photos and I just love all the colors you chose. It was truly a labor of love to make such a large piece. Love the overshot coverlet too!
We have rain here in New England for a couple of weeks straight. 50's & low 60's here and I love it. It will change in a heartbeat as it always does here and we'll be in the 90's before you know it.
I'd like a bit more time in my garden and to stop mowing between the raindrops but other than that I'm loving the cool weather. The rainy days give me more time to get to my hooking.
Have a wonderful week.

Take care and have a great week!

It is already an awesome Penny Rug. You're doing an amazing job. Lucky you on that find in a thrift shop. The colors are coming thru my monitor perfect. Love your choices and am really looking forward to seeing it finished. Keep us posted friend on your progress...
Yes those cameras can have minds of their own. Mine just quit. Now gots to see what all those dials are for. I probably clicked something unknowingly. Oh well... such is life.
I am wanting to do the 'small' penny mat that Cee is doing ... just my size too. I LOVE the colors - http://thediaryofarugmaker.blogspot.com/.
Our weather will hit the 90's... Feels good for those old bones of mine.

Folk Art Hugs for now, Barb

Hi Lauren,
Thanks so much!! At least now you can really see the right colors!!
Yes, my camera seems to like to take pictures of what I don't see!!
I think Jeff does a much better job, but he was inundated with lots of papers to grade, so it was up to me to make it happen!! The blue coverlet was my helper!!! lol
We start getting more warm weather tomorrow!! Boo!! lol
Hope you have a fabulous time at rug camp!!

Hi Barb,
I was so happy to find that coverlet, too, and the price made me really happy!! I am also so happy I used it as it seems to have been just what I needed to make the black stand out!! So happy you like it and I am really excited to get it all done, too!! Trying to just enjoy it and stitch as much or as little as I want to!!
Sorry about your camera, but my hubby Jeff seems to understand it better than I do!! I still think we may need a new one, though!!
I love Cee's work and she does a beautiful job to be sure!!
Take care and thanks so much for your visit!!

Hope both of you enjoy your week!!
