Let your soul stand ajar, always ready to welcome the ecstatic experience. ~ Emily Dickinson

Do you have any memories of being "sent to the corner?" I certainly do!! It happened in Second Grade and I don't even recall the particular offense but I can remember the total humiliation of having to sit there and stare at that lonely line, with 2 empty walls on either side, and wish I could just disappear!! Life can be so very difficult for a 2nd Grader! Thankfully, I did survive that traumatic experience and since that time, I have even gained a new appreciation for “THE DREADED CORNER” , and find I actually have some favorite corners in my home that I would love to share with you!!

One of those corners happens to be in my dining room and truth be told, I actually LOVE to SIT and STARE at this wall!!! It is filled with so many wonderful things…..

A gorgeous hooked rug made by my dear friend Lori Rippey of Homespun Prims by Lori. Her work is perfection!

Here is a grouping of  a wonderful Schneeman Doll and Bird that I treasure, along with two velvet birds that I made from old velvet,  a punched tin lantern, and a yellow wear bowl filled with potpourri, all resting on a mustard box and black bench!  These are my very favorite colors to decorate with!!

An AMAZING STACK of PAINTED BOXES, given to me by a dear friend and an old chair, with wonderful patina, complete with an old bowl, butter press, and old and new textiles!

What is NOT to love about this corner??

Perhaps you too have had a hard time with corners, not because you had to sit in one as a child, but just because they can be challenging to decorate! May I just say that you can change all that by looking at them with a whole new perspective! Try to fill them with those special things that you love, that would otherwise get lost somewhere else, but by putting them IN THE CORNER, you will actually give them a place of honor!! Just try it and see if you don’t fall in love with corners too!! Don’t forget to have a chair close by, just in case you want to SIT and STARE at your handiwork!!

A sweet song by Rodgers and Hammerstein says it perfectly…..

But I know of a spot in my house, where no one can stand in my way,
In My own little corner, in my own little chair,
I can be whatever I want to be!

And might I add….I can SEE whatever I want to SEE!!!

Wishing you CREATIVE CORNERS, my Friends~~

I wish I had more corners in my house but this is an open floor plan with lots of windows. Your corner is beautiful! I especially love the stack of boxes.

What a wonderful idea....and look at how high those boxes go! Oh, this gives me such inspiration - I love painting and stenciling paper mache boxes, and now I have a reason to make more!!! :-D

Cute post Julie! I have been doing some physical therapy on my knees. One of the exercises is to improve balance. I need to stand in a corner and close my eyes..putting one foot in front of the other. I returned home...to find just the right corner..only to realize all my corners are filled with prim goodies, lol!!! So...I guess my knees will stink, but my corners are great! Katie

Hi Julie,
No, I don't have any memories of being sent to the corner. However, I wouldn't mind being sent to your beautiful corner! It is wonderful! The mustard, black and red makes such a pleasing color combo...and one of my personal favorites. Lori's rug is a beauty, and the doll and birds are perfect...the whole corner is perfect! Love the red velvet birds! Love looking at these pretty pics!
So glad to hear from you...I was wondering where you were....you were missed! Hope all is well with you and yours.
Have a great weekend, my friend.
