~ Still Thankful ~

I hope all of you had a most enjoyable Thanksgiving and continue to savor it with each delectable leftover!!  We finished the last of the pumpkin pie last night and will enjoy a wonderful Turkey Soup tonight, and that will be it for us!!  It truly has been wonderful...the first, second, AND third time around!!  How thankful I am for all the many ways we can enjoy turkey.....in soups, chowders, casseroles, sandwiches, and stews, and that it still tastes good, no matter HOW you prepare it!!!  Truly, Thanksgiving offers so much for us to be thankful for!!

Speaking of being thankful, I wanted to express my thanks to all of you who follow my blog and stop by my Picture Trail!  You have been such a source of encouragement to me and my heart is so blessed by your lives!  When I started blogging I never imagined I would still be doing it 4 years later!!!  I started slow and was so unsure if I would even stay with it, but it has been a true joy and blessing to me!!  If you are reading this and are thinking about starting a blog, but are afraid or unsure, let me just say that if I can do it, YOU CAN TOO!!!  You have no idea how much You Will Be Blessed and at the same time Will Bless Someone Else, just by taking that first keystroke!!  You will be so happy you did and so will someone else!!!

Many of you have signed up for my email updates and I thank you for that!  Just be sure that you follow all the steps so that you are verified.  If you would like me to add you for Picture Trail updates, just sign my guest book and ask to be added.

Bells Products Eyelet from the Attic Finds Album

Please note that I will be closing my ATTIC FINDS album in a week, so if there is something you are interested in or have a question about, just email me!!

I hope you have a wonderful week, my friends!!

Wishing you special Blessings~~

~HAPPY THANKSGIVING~

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.
~Melody Beattie

Wishing all of you a most wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with an over-abundance of Blessings!!!

With a Heart of Gratitude~~

~Berry Strings and Scissor Fobs~

I have had so many unfinished projects next to my sewing chair and decided to actually FINISH them!!!  They are finally done and I thought I would share them with you!  Here are some new Berry Strings and some new Scissor Fobs!  "Scissor WHAT," you may ask?  A simple definition would be, "a small ornament or adornment, attached to a pair of scissors, to keep them from being lost!"  They could be little square pillow pincushions, strings of beads, old buttons, or in this case, velvet strawberries!  Since I already had these stitched up and stuffed, they were my choice!!!   All the berries are from a wonderful pattern by the very talented Stacy Nash, and I have so enjoyed making them!!

Each strawberry (for the Fob) has a piece of old cording, firmly stitched in place, with enough length for the strawberry to slip though and be strung on a pair of scissors.  Since I did not have enough little scissors lying around, I decided to raid my old keys stash and attached each "fob" to a key.  You can just unhook the berry and then add it to your favorite pair of stitching scissors, to not only keep track of, but you can even add a stray needle or a pin to keep handy!  If you decide to keep the key attached, this makes the sweetest little ornament for your tree, a cupboard knob or a hook!  Or, just remove the key, tie some ribbon or homespun to it and you have a new necklace for a special dolly!!  Or.......you decide!!!  Old keys have endless possibilities!!!

Both the Berry Strings and Scissor Fobs have been added to my Picture Trail, and if you have a moment, I would so love to have you stop by!!  As always, I so appreciate the sweet comments and visits!!  Anyone who blogs will tell you that is the greatest gift to receive and makes blogging so rewarding!!

As I close this post, I am reminded of the terrible weather the East Coast and other parts of the country are experiencing as a result of "Sandy" and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those in harm's way!! Please stay safe, dear friends!!

Wishing you warmth and shelter~~

~OCTOBER REVELRY~

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
The leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
~George Cooper, "October's Party"

My Harvest Friends!

This is that very busy time of year for everyone and like most of you, I too have been quite busy, to the point that I have sadly neglected my blog AND visiting all of my favorite blogs as well!!  I have had all the best intentions though and have lots to share!  Sadly, all my best laid plans do not amount to much when the dreaded "computer issues" strike, and we have had our share in recent days!!!  Frustrating indeed!!  Happily though, things have been mended, and we are back on track!!  I have been doing some "de-stashing," as well as creating, and have some new albums ready to view on my Picture Trail, if you would care to stop by for a visit!  There are new creations in my new Autumn Album and my MakeDo's Album, as well as what I call, "Attic Finds," things I have decided to let go of and pass on to you!  I will be adding to this album on a regular basis, so please do keep checking back!!

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who faithfully follow my simple blog, who stop in for a visit now and again, and who leave a sweet word or two!! I am truly grateful!!  Never underestimate the power of a kind word!!   I also want to welcome those of you who have newly joined in and thank you as well!!  It always brings my heart such joy to see your interest!!!  Hopefully, I will get back on track and begin posting again on a regular basis!!

In the meantime, I hope that wherever you are, you are enjoying this most lovely time of year and perhaps savoring some apple cider and a donut or two!!
Hmm, sounds like the makings of a party to me.....!

Wishing you October Joys~~

~A SHOWER AND A WEDDING~

Whenever you hear the words, SHOWER and WEDDING, the obvious question is, "Who's is it?"  Without further ado, the lucky lady is...

My sweet daughter Janelle!
Here she is, relaxing before all the guests arrive!

Her dear friends Megan and Jenny, both former college friends, did a lovely job of giving her the shower!

Her coworker Hannah was so gracious to open her gorgeous home for this perfect event!  Oscar, one of her kittens, wanted to say hello too!  Isn't he beautiful!!

The gift table started out like this, complete with a ribbon bouquet that I had to make with all the ribbon from the gifts!  Both the table and bouquet were full later!!

Janelle asked me to make a certain cake called Lemonade Cake, as seen in Better Homes and Gardens earlier this year!!  It is as delicious as it is pretty!!!

The food table, with my Lemonade Cake, just waiting to be enjoyed!!  It really was a most fantastic cake, even if it did take me over 4 hours to make it!!

The final photo of my daughter with yours truly!  I could not be more proud or more happy!!

It is so very hard for me to believe that next week I will be driving to CA to celebrate this monumental day in Janelle and Austin's life!!  Jeff will have the privilege of not only walking our daughter down the aisle, but also performing the ceremony!!  We will be gaining a wonderful new son and are so happy and excited for them as they begin their new life together!!

A Shower, a Wedding, Special Friends and Family, Gifts, and Lemonade Cake...."The Stuff that Dreams are Made Of!"

Wishing you "Happy Dreams" my friends~~

~ IN THE CORNER ~

Do you have any memories of being "sent to the corner?" I certainly do!! It happened in Second Grade and I don't even recall the particular offense but I can remember the total humiliation of having to sit there and stare at that lonely line, with 2 empty walls on either side, and wish I could just disappear!! Life can be so very difficult for a 2nd Grader! Thankfully, I did survive that traumatic experience and since that time, I have even gained a new appreciation for “THE DREADED CORNER” , and find I actually have some favorite corners in my home that I would love to share with you!!

One of those corners happens to be in my dining room and truth be told, I actually LOVE to SIT and STARE at this wall!!! It is filled with so many wonderful things…..

A gorgeous hooked rug made by my dear friend Lori Rippey of Homespun Prims by Lori. Her work is perfection!

Here is a grouping of  a wonderful Schneeman Doll and Bird that I treasure, along with two velvet birds that I made from old velvet,  a punched tin lantern, and a yellow wear bowl filled with potpourri, all resting on a mustard box and black bench!  These are my very favorite colors to decorate with!!

An AMAZING STACK of PAINTED BOXES, given to me by a dear friend and an old chair, with wonderful patina, complete with an old bowl, butter press, and old and new textiles!

What is NOT to love about this corner??

Perhaps you too have had a hard time with corners, not because you had to sit in one as a child, but just because they can be challenging to decorate! May I just say that you can change all that by looking at them with a whole new perspective! Try to fill them with those special things that you love, that would otherwise get lost somewhere else, but by putting them IN THE CORNER, you will actually give them a place of honor!! Just try it and see if you don’t fall in love with corners too!! Don’t forget to have a chair close by, just in case you want to SIT and STARE at your handiwork!!

A sweet song by Rodgers and Hammerstein says it perfectly…..

But I know of a spot in my house, where no one can stand in my way,
In My own little corner, in my own little chair,
I can be whatever I want to be!

And might I add….I can SEE whatever I want to SEE!!!

Wishing you CREATIVE CORNERS, my Friends~~

~WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR??~

That is the question these 5 sweet dollies have been asking me for several days now!  Not to worry, my dears.....I have your dresses almost ready for you!!

I have been trying to take my own advice from my previous post....seems like many of you could relate and I thank you for your sweet comments and emails!!  I hope you too could enjoy those "rest times" and apparently I must have been taking LOTS of DEEP BREATHS this month already!!!  Lots of resting it seems!!  No matter!!  I have truly been enjoying the whole creative process and just taking my time!!

My dolls are a bit anxious for some much needed clothing, but I have told them they must be patient a bit longer and they will be dressed soon!!

I think they will be pleased!!!

All of these dolls, plus some other things I have been working on will be in my update on my Picturetrail, hopefully soon!!!  I will keep you posted when I am getting close!!

As for now, I will just keep plugging away, a stitch here, a stitch there, and reminding myself WHY I do what I do.......PURE JOY OF CREATING!!!  It soothes, heals, restores, comforts and brings deep joy to my heart!!  How very thankful I am that I can do what I love!  What could be sweeter??

Wishing you "Pure Joy" today~~

~TIME FOR REST~

"SOMETIMES THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN A WHOLE DAY IS THE REST WE TAKE BETWEEN TWO DEEP BREATHS."  ~ Etty Hillesum

I've been doing that a lot lately....taking deep breaths, and forgetting that there are moments of rest in between!!
As I sit here staring at my computer screen, I am wondering WHERE DID JUNE GO???  Does anyone else feel the same way??  I had so many plans and ideas for projects to complete and in less than an hour, it will be July 1st!!  I have had an album on my Picture Trail ready and waiting for some patriotic items and sadly, I only have TWO THINGS to share!!!  Here's one of them! If you would like to see the other one, just stop by my PT for a peek!

I need to remind myself that I am only human, only one person, and that JULY has ONE DAY MORE than June so perhaps I can get more done THIS MONTH!!!Or perhaps this next month, I will try to be more realistic about what I can actually accomplish, and more importantly, ENJOY EACH MOMENT!! I think I like that idea much better, don't you?

May all of us remember to take that much needed REST, Between TWO DEEP BREATHS!!

Julie
